No, there is no cost to apply.
Total approximate cost per year is $1,700 which includes books, plus a $100 technology fee.
This program takes a minimum of four years to complete. On-the-Job training is 2,000 hours per year—a total of 8,000 hours over the four years; Related classroom instruction is 576 hours (144 hours per year), each of the four years of the program per Maryland state requirement.
You do not need a job to apply, but you must find employment with one of our member electrical contractors within the first year. There is a hiring list available.
For every 1,000 hours you work and accumulate, you make a percentage of your employer’s average journeyperson’s wage. For example, up to 1,000 hours you’ll make 50% your employer’s journeyperson’s wage; up to 2,000 hours, you’ll make 55%, and so on – between 7,000 and 8,000 hours you’ll make 85% your employer’s journeyperson’s wage.
Applications for entry into the program are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. The application deadline for the 2021 school year is May 31, 2021.
In-class instruction begins in September and runs through April. Prior to starting classes, you can begin to earn on-the-job training hours in January of the school year in which you begin.
Classes are held twice a week in the evening September through April, from 6-9 PM. 1st and 3rd year students attend on Monday and Wednesday evenings; 2nd and 4th year students attend on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
