Students who are eligible for the STA program and are employed by one of our member electrical contractors will enter the HCECA apprenticeship as 2nd year apprentices, and will be officially registered with the State of Maryland’s Apprenticeship and Training Program.

Participants must be actively working toward and continue progressing toward their high school diploma.

During their senior year, students can begin earning on-the-job training (OJT) hours while employed with an HCECA member contractor. This may include time worked during the school year, as well as the summers before and after senior year, through participation in the WBL program or approved lab-based training. Please note that students without work-based learning or employment experience will not be eligible to log OJT hours.

Prospective STA students will complete the same application process as all other applicants and will have the additional requirement of submitting an eligibility form completed by their electrical instructor. Qualified applicants may receive up to 1,000 hours of OJT credit, based on a combination of work experience and/or lab training. All hours are subject to approval by the employer, HCECA, HTHS, HCPS, and other applicable parties, and are based on factors such as academic performance and demonstrated competencies.
